Grant of 50% concession in admission fee for labour class of Indian origin working in UAE/Gulf countries for admission to Secondary Course of NIOS for the Academic Session 2004-2005

It is intimated that NIOS has Decided to introduce the Malayalam Medium at the Secondary level from the Academic Session 2004-05 commencing July, 2004

In order to help the Labour class of Indian origin working in the UAE/Gulf countries, NIOS has also decided to give special concession in admission fee to the labour class of Indian origin (e.g. Office boys in Government/Private Offices, engaged with cleaning companies, different type of Labour in construction field, Drivers, Peons etc. ) working in UAE/Gulf Countries from $600 (currently being charged) to $ 300 at the Secondary level, in deserving cases, for the Academic Session 2004-05, subject to :

(a) Production of employment/salary certificate to the effect that the aspirant candidate is working as labour in the Gulf region; and
(b) Recommendation of the AIs that the candidate deserves the concession in admission fee;

The AIs in the UAE/Gulf countries will give admission to these candidates and send the list for NIOS perusal and ratification. As usual, the AIs of UAE/Gulf countries will be allowed to retain 50% of the admission fee to meet their expenditure for rendering the services to the NIOS students. The orther 50% will be remitted to the NIOS.

KERALA

As a Special case, all the AIs in Kerala State have been permitted to accept the Malayalam Medium Admission Forms (Secondary level) for the Academic Session 2004-05

The Secondary level learners opting for Malayalam Medium are advised to refer to the list of AIs in Kerala State (Under Region : Kochi), who have been permitted to accept.

Change in TMA weightage:

As against Para 5.4 (page 18 of the Prospectus 2003-04), TMA shall be treated as a learning tool only i.e to help the learners to know their progress and prepare well for public examinations and the Awards of TMA will be reflected on the Marksheet separately and will not be considered for inclusion in overall Grading in Public Examination.

Academic Courses

Regarding the accreditation of institutes for Academic Courses, it has been decided that :

(A) New accreditation for academic courses may be considered only in the following cases :
(i) Only for girls schools in any part of the country
(ii) Urdu medium schools in Muslim majority areas
(iii) Govt. schools including Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas.
(iv) Good schools in the educationally backward districts/blocks of the country.
(v) In those districts where there is no AI or there is only 1 or 2 AIs in the district.
(vi) School/institutes for differently able children.

(B) Upgradation of the existing AIs to Sr. Secondary level may be considered on fulfillment of required criteria of NIOS.
(C) No new AI should be considered in the districts where number of AIs in a district is 10 or more.
(D) In order to reach to the unreached districts of the country, the concerned Regional Centre should organize special compaign by
- Identifying the good and reputed schools (may be Govt. Schools, KVS, Navodaya Vidyalayas or good schools affiliated with CBSE/ICSE/State Board of School Education), and
- Organising promotional meetings with the principals of such identified schools to encourage them for accreditation with NIOS.
